Toyota Land Cruiser 2013 Review

Test drivers say the 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser is a highly capable on- or off-road luxury large SUV. Its eight-passenger capacity and high-tech features are highlights, but it comes with a hefty price tag.

There are a lot of updates for the refreshed 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser, but it retains its powerful 5.7-liter V8 engine and off-road roots. Reviewers say the engine moves the huge SUV with confidence, making passing and merging easy. The Land Cruiser’s engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, which test drivers feel shifts smoothly. It also comes with full-time four-wheel drive for those who want to venture on the back roads or want extra assurance in harsh weather. Kelley Blue Book says, "After 60 years, the Toyota Land Cruiser continues to define the standards of off-road prowess." The Land Cruiser gets average fuel economy for the class at 13/18 mpg city/highway. Reviewers say the Land Cruiser handles well on paved roads, which isn’t always said the case for off-road SUVs. Like most large SUVs, the Land Cruiser’s maneuverability in tight spots is an issue.
With a revised interior, auto critics say the Land Cruiser has a luxurious cabin packed with high-tech features and seats up to eight passengers in three rows. There are no optional features, as all available features are now included as standard equipment. Notable features include a rear-seat entertainment system, navigation, perforated leather upholstery, heated second-row seats and a refrigerated center console. Toyota’s new navigation system includes its Entune infotainment system, which provides real-time traffic and weather, as well as Pandora Internet radio. The Land Cruiser trails much of the class in terms of cargo space, and critics feel that its third row is only comfortable for children.
